Prioritising Mental Health at Stödig Ship Management
At Stödig Ship Management, our commitment to building and maintaining a strong safety culture goes beyond compliance with regulations. Mental health focus is an essential part of our safety work, and to ensure personnel safety is non-negotiable. Providing our employees with mental health resources and support systems is key to fostering a resilient and healthy workforce.
Leadership and Continuous Improvement
Leadership is crucial in setting the tone for safety and mental health. Our leaders are dedicated to being visible and engaged, promoting safe practices. Learning and improvement is vital and at the core of our safety culture. We encourage open communication and incident reporting to foster an environment of learning. Simplifying our Safety Management System (SMS) makes it accessible and easy to understand, supporting our commitment to both safety and mental health.
Supporting Mental Health Onboard and Onshore
We recognise the unique challenges seafarers face. Our colleagues at sea spend long periods away from family, working in harsh weather conditions and in areas that require increased security precautions. We prioritise their safety and well-being. Our leaders practice empathy and active communication, creating an environment where crew members feel valued and understood. We equip seafarers with tools to manage stress and build resilience through training and interactive sessions. Through our partnership with Mental Health Services we provide a dedicated, confidential support line for our seafarers.
Mental health is equally important for our shore-based employees. Several initiatives are planned for 2024, to prioritise this area, including workshops, awareness campaigns, and flexible work arrangements. Counselling services are available and promoted through social activity groups and whistleblowing systems. We aim to further strengthening our culture and lowering barriers for reporting.
We aim to create a workplace that prioritises mental health, fosters a supportive environment, and contributes to the overall well-being of our employees. At Stödig Ship Management, we believe that a strong focus on mental health enhances safety of our crew and shore staff, as well as the performance of our maritime operations.
